Traveling allows us to experience abstract ways of thinking, being, and doing. It is through travel that we gain a broader perspective, both figuratively and literally. Here at CCI Greenheart, the Career Advancement Program team is all about travel. In hopes of inspiring you to expand your horizons and seek out new destinations, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite travel quotes from great writers and travelers –even from Career Advancement Program alumni!

  1. “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller, Surrealist writer and novelist
  2. “All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” – Martin Buber, Jewish philosopher and existentialist
  3. “Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” – Mark Jenkins, American adventurer and columnist for Outside magazine
  4. “It was best part of the experience – meeting new people. It was touching experience and I will be remembering it for my entire life.”Tomas from Czech Republic, 2014 J-1 Trainee
  5. “Traveling- It leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” Ibh Battuta, Islamic scholar and great traveler
  6. “Every hundred feet the world changes” Roberto Bolano, Chilean novelist and poet
  7. “My trainee program in the U.S. has been the greatest opportunity I’ve had until now, and I am very happy with everything I’ve learned. Besides all the experiences that I gained, this program helped me become more self-confident and open-minded and made me realize that everything is possible if you work for it.” Alina from Romania, 2013 J-1 Trainee
  8. “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” ―Maya Angelou, activist of the 1960s African-American Civil Rights Movement
