Oscar- outside

Oscar poses on the gorgeous grounds of his host organization, a 5 star desert resort in Utah.

Through his J-1 training program, Oscar, a culinary enthusiast, was able to receive hands-on hospitality experience at a world-renowned resort tucked into the desert landscape of Utah. Oscar, who has managed his family’s catering business in the Philippines for 5 years, wanted to test his chef skills at a prestigious restaurant in order to gain more insight into the industry. “[My duties at my family’s business] were more on the operational side. I took culinary studies so when I get to manage the whole business I can also take charge of the kitchen more experienced and knowledgeable,” he explains.

It seems that Oscar didn’t wait until he returned home to take charge of the kitchen! Excelling at his training, Oscar won a company award for excellence in service.  His secret recipe for  Filipino chicken porridge was so popular that it became a staple of the resort’s dinner menu!

“I remember and won’t ever forget what my chef in school told me – that being a chef always needs learning. Even if I finished my culinary studies,  it doesn’t stop there. In order to succeed and gain the respect of being called a ‘chef’ one should keep on learning, studying, and experimenting.” CCI Greenheart wishes Oscar the best in what looks to be a very bright future!
