Career Advancement Program Trainee Adriana came to the U.S. from Mexico to learn more about the  culinary world. Not only did she land  in one of the greatest food cities in the world, New York City, but now she is experiencing what it means to be a part of a booming kitchen!

Her host company, Aska restaurant in Brooklyn, was recently named on of the “10 Best New Restaurants in America” by Bon Appetit Magazine.  Executive Chef Fredrik Berselius has brought his Swedish roots to New York City, serving dishes that stem from his upbringing. Playful called the Foraging Chef, Berselius offers traditional dishes with oftentimes unconventional ingredients…lichen anyone?!

The mix of cultures within the restaurant only helps expand upon Adriana’s experience as a J-1 cultural exchange trainee.  “I’m learning many different ingredients from the region,” she reflects on her study of the rustic Swedish cuisine.  And Adriana brings her own cultural expertise to the table as well- literally.  This summer, she cooked a Mexican meal for the whole Aska team.
