A Day in the American Life for an Ambassador Scholar
By: Dan Hou, Work and Travel Ambassador Scholar
Travelling for the first time on the Work and Travel program, Dan Hou (known as Felicity) traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania from China to work for a local employer. Read about her American adventures in her first two weeks in the United States!
This is my second day in Harrisburg. My friends and I are not yet very accustomed to the food in America, so we went to the local Walmart to buy some rice, but we got off the bus too early. We thought we arrived to Walmart, but we were wrong, so we came into a mall to enjoy the things there. It was a great experience.
I took this picture on the way to the Capital building in Harrisburg. The other girl is my friend who came here to the United States with me. We thought the scenery here was very beautiful, so we took this picture. We jumped up, because we were so happy.
American children are very cute! This picture was taken in Harrisburg’s City Island. The kids were playing near the river. We enjoyed their fun and asked them to take a picture with us. I was very happy.
This is picture was taken in City Island. We saw two sisters were skating, so we decided to talk to them. We asked to take pictures individually, but the ferry captain came out and told us he could help us to take photos all together. Americans are so friendly and kindhearted.
This is a soccer game held in City Island. Our manager supplied tickets for us. Although it was raining outside, we still enjoyed it so much. I was also lucky enough to get a small soccer ball. I will keep it for life. It will always be a perfectly beautiful memory.
