The picturesque town of Lublin, Poland is home to many cozy cafes, eclectic bars and restaurants, lively tourist attractions and has a charming, small-town atmosphere. With about 15 public and private universities, including the famous Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (UMCS) and John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), Lublin is often called a students’ town. It is home-base for many Polish and international students as well as Greenheart’s Polish partner, Centrum Wyjazdowe i Podatkowe.

In March, our lovely host organization representatives from Pennsylvania and I traveled to Lublin to meet with Work and Travel participants at a job fair event organized by Centrum Wyjazdowe i Podatkowe. On the first evening, we all got together and enjoyed a jazz concert in the beautiful, newly opened Meeting of Cultures Centre. On the second day, we held our job fair event where 74 participants were interviewed. I had a great time meeting all of the participants and learning about their goals for the program and also hearing about their excitement to travel to the United States. The most incredible part was that all 74 participants, including 16 returning participants, received job offers!

The highlight of the trip for me, besides meeting the participants, was visiting one of the primary schools in Lublin and interacting with the kids! All the kids spoke English and enthusiastically asked questions about culture and life in the United States. We hope to see them as participants for the Work and Travel program in the future!

Lastly, the trip wouldn’t be complete without checking out local restaurants. We spent most of our free time eating delicious Polish food. Lublin, thank you for your hospitality and see you next year!
