Welcome to Kennebunkport!

Welcome to Kennebunkport!

Kennebunkport is a small town located in the state of Maine. The first thing I noticed about this quiet town is that all the houses, shops, hotels and restaurants were made of wood. When I first arrived here, I was in awe that these structures had an earthly ambiance to it that made me feel as if I was in a whole new world. The town’s hub is located right on the Kennebunk River and is frequented by tourists. It also provides job opportunities for many international students like myself, as well as locals in and around Kennebunkport. The town is impeccably clean and the air is fresh.

What is a typical day like in Kennebunkport? Greeted by the radiant sunshine, squirrels run along the tree branches and power lines; the atmosphere gives a feeling of purity and freshness. Within a twenty-minute walk into the town of Kennebunkport, you are greeted with smiles from the many locals and tourists along the way. Kennebunkport is separated from Kennebunk by a bridge. I live in Kennebunkport or “The Port,” while I work in Kennebunk. The Port is the home of many famous inns and hotels, as well as various restaurant and shops.  On a normal day in the heat of summer, you will see these shops and restaurants crowded with tourists purchasing souvenirs and memorabilia for themselves or for families and friends.

One of the most noticeable things in the town of Kennebunkport is the rising and lowering of the Kennebunk River as a result of the tide throughout the day. The Kennebunk River is home to a number of marinas. Local shops such as Best of Everything, Abacus and Mountain Tops, carry a lot of local made jewelry that I must say are truly one of a kind. If you are wanting a bite to eat, there are several restaurants within the town to choose from depending on the mood you are in.

Feeling a bit spicey? Pedro’s Mexican restaurant offers a variety of Mexican dishes made from local produce.  Feeling for a drink with friends? Well, Federal Jacks Restaurant and Brewpub is the place to be, as they are famous for their locally produced handcrafted ales. One of the most favored spots by the young adults in Kennebunkport is Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream. As the sunshine disappears over Kennebunkport, many couples, both young and old, can be seen slowly making their way to Ben and Jerry’s for a sweet and creamy delight before the day ends.

Kennebunkport is a quiet little getaway for friends, family and lovers, and the place where I learned all my hospitality skills. It is also the place where you can find the summer home of former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. I’m glad I have the opportunity to be here and to meet some wonderful people and leave my mark in so many ways. A wonderful summer now awaits me!
