During the Going Greenheart Tour’s recent visit to Virginia Beach, a hot-spot for the Summer Work Travel Program for J1 participants, locals in the community got together to help spread awareness for a wonderful green cause.

In an ongoing effort to keep the beach clean of trash and litter, the Resort Advisory Commission’s Green Resort Eco-friendly Efficient Neighbors Committee has been working hard to help bring attention to this environmental issue. Organized by Laura Habr of the Green Committee, volunteers were tasked with walking down a popular stretch of beach to put up stickers to remind people to throw their trash away.

The attention-grabbing stickers with the ‘Beach Clean’ tagline and various images of marine life, remind people of the important environmental impact a few pieces of trash can have on the fragile ecosystem. This organization has also been active in getting more garbage and recycle bins put up all along the beach. They have been working with J1’s throughout the summer, and continue to organize events such as these to promote their cause.
