After volunteering at PADELA, I often think of the quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I know I want to continue to make a positive change in the world. Do you?

Every day, I volunteer at Patronato Amigo De Los Animales (PADELA), a non-government organization (NGO) that provides foster care services for animals in the Dominican Republic. I love that I get to be a leader at PADELA. Whether I’m walking, bathing, or playing with the dogs, I always feel empowered by taking care of these animals, many of whom are picked up off the street. PADELA’s mission is to defend and protect animals, and it has inspired me to advocate for animal rights by applying for the Alumni Grant with Greenheart International.

I recently connected with CCI Greenheart, a J-1 visa sponsor I utilized in 2014 on my Summer Work Travel program while in the United States. I applied and was granted the Alumni Grant!  With this grant, I will continue to carry out PADELA’s mission. Every time I visit PADELA, the dogs make me smile – they always place their paws on my hands for attention, but really they are placing their paws on my heart.

After volunteering at PADELA, I often think of the quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I know I want to continue to make a positive change in the world. Do you?
