CCI Greenheart’s Work & Travel makes a stop in Palm Springs!
By: Haldis Toppen, Work and Travel Cultural Outreach Coordinator
On the second stop in the Winter 2013 season Going Greenheart Tour, our very own Marcelle Benedicta went to Palm Springs, California. And boy was it a success! The day started promptly at 9:15am where the J-1 participants learned all about the Greenheart Club, and how volunteering is a great American tradition.
Then everyone (including the employer) shipped off to the Indian Canyons. The Indian Canyons are an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. The area is owned by the Agua Caliente Cahuilla Native Americans. Participants got a chance to hike the Palm Canyon trail and Andreas Canyon trail. Many participants remarked how the landscape was beyond beautiful, and that they had never seen such rock formations and the overabundance of palm trees before.
After spending time walking and learning about eachother, the day was concluded back at the Ace Hotel with a pizza party and a ping pong competition, as well as a housing visit!
As most of the country is cold and snowy, these participants are experiencing the desert for the first time and loving it!
