Experiencing the American Life
By: Konrad Raksa, Work and Travel Ambassador Scholar
Konrad is an international student from Poland who is in the United States for the Work & Travel program. As an Ambassador Scholar, Konrad will be active in his host community of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Get caught up on all Konrad is doing!
I have been in the United States for two weeks now. I arrived to this country via the huge airport in New York City, called John F. Kennedy. I have been in the United States before, but I always find it fun to arrive here through JFK.
I didn’t stay in New York City for very long after I arrived, because I wanted to get to the city I was going to work in, to see all of my friends from doing the Work and Travel program before. Since arriving to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (my host community), I have done quite a lot!
I use the public bus transportation to get everywhere in Harrisburg, and each time I come back here I have to get use to using the public transportation system. It is quite different from public transportation at home in Poland.
I have already done a lot of shopping in Harrisburg; something I like to do in the United States. I have also gone to an international party which was hosted by some of my Ukrainian and Slovakian friends. This party’s theme was Ukrainian cuisine. A lot of Americans and other nationalities also attended the party, so it was a true cultural exchange experience!
I have been staying active during my program, by going to the gym. I have been inviting some of my new friends to come with me so that we can meet new people and stay healthy and active together.
I believe this will be one of the best summers I will ever have!
