Finding Luck in Harrisburg
Travelling for the first time on the Work and Travel program, Dan Hou (known as Felicity) traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania from China to work for a local employer. Read about her American adventures in her first month in the United States!
This picture was taken when my friends and I volunteered with the Greenheart Club at Capital Area Greenbelt Association. We helped to clean up and beautify a garden. The woman in the green shirt was our supervisor. We love her so much; she is great. I can’t wait to volunteer more.
This cat is the Goddess of Luck. I want it bring good luck for me! This picture was on the day of my volunteering. I decided to volunteer, because I find it a fun and enjoyable activity. The park is a very beautiful place. I will come to there every Sunday.
My Chinese friends and I went to one of our supervisor’s home. We taught her how to make dumplings. It was so much fun! My friends and I like parties, because we make a lot of friends and we can be together to talk about our different cultures.
This dish in the picture is a traditional Chinese dish that I cooked. I don’t know the name in English, but it is very delicious. My friends and I often cook Chinese food for our international friends. They tend to like rice a lot, so I have taught them how to cook it.
On July 14th, CCI Greenheart and I2 (International Institute for Exchange Programs) held the Greenheart Soiree in Strawberry Square. It was my first time to come to an American party. I danced and sang. I enjoyed it so much! I have told all my Chinese friends back at home how much fun I am having in Harrisburg! I am so appreciative of this journey. Thank you CCI Greenheart and everyone!
