Global Leaders Take Over D.C.
By: Antonio Ramon Molina Mendez, 2015 Ambassador Scholar
I actually did not have time to travel around the U.S.A. I had to return to my home country because my classes at university were about to start. However, I did travel to Washington, D.C., which was awesome. I saw so many places that I never thought I would ever see. The National Mall was just amazing.
Thanks to CCI Greenheart for the scholarships that gave us the chance to get to know the history and monuments of the United States. It’s just so nice what CCI Greenheart is giving to the world. It has been a pleasure for me to be a part of the program. I will always be glad that I was part of CCI Greenheart!
I organized a few volunteer projects during my program. One was called “Wear-a-Triathlon!” where volunteers helped hand out water at a triathlon. Another one was a J-1 participant orientation. I did what I could to help my host community, Old Orchard Beach, and the J-1 participants that worked there for the summer.
It was amazing when I visited Washington, D.C. for the Greenheart Global Leaders Conference. We went to the World Bank, and I learned about how poverty is affecting parts of the world. We also talked about countries like my own, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. This was my third time going to the U.S.A., and I bet this is the last one. I hope that I left something of myself in Old Orchard Beach. This town is a part of my life.
For me, the most important part of the conference was the daily gatherings that were led by Greenheart staff, Catherine, Marney and Haldis. Those girls killed it. They went into the topic of leadership with great depth and knowledge. We talked about philanthropy, having awareness of the world, service projects, and advocacy. After that I could understand the importance of these terms. They created global leaders.
Thank you Catherine, Marney and Haldis for the time you guys dedicated to us.
