Going Greenheart Tour visits Wisconsin participants, host organizations
By: Kaitlyn Peters, CCI Greenheart Work and Travel Employer Services Coordinator
In late August, CCI Greenheart staff members Renee Clarke and Kaitlyn Peters traveled to Wisconsin to visit our host organizations and participants on a Going Greenheart Tour. The first stop of the tour brought us to Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Campground Resort in Warrens, Wisconsin. Our Greenheart project took place at the Tomah County Fairgrounds where we helped prepare the fairgrounds for the winter. Participants who spent their summers working as lifeguards, housekeepers, or food associates now got to try their hand at park maintenance! We were responsible for cleaning up trash, putting the picnic tables into storage, cleaning windows and doors, and leveling the mulch under the playgrounds. The Ukrainian, Jamaican, and Chinese participants had never seen a tractor pull before and were interested in learning about this unique American competition!
The next stop brought us to Wisconsin Dells where we met up with participants working at the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort. During an “End of Summer” lawn party, we connected and relaxed with participants from the Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Saudi Arabia. In addition to volleyball and corn hole, participants were also introduced to bocce ball for the first time! We also enjoyed snacks and spent time making various dog and cat toys, which were donated to local animal shelters. Overall, the Going Greenheart Tour in Wisconsin was a wonderful way to see our participants succeeding at their jobs and giving back to the local community!
