Greenheart Grant renovates community church in Jamaica
Jevon was one of our leading volunteers for the Greenheart Club in the summer of 2012 as result of his volunteer efforts he was awarded a grant to complete a volunteer project in his home country of Jamaica. Below he talks about his project in Jamaica.
The grant I received (US $250 on November 19, 2012) was equivalent to JM $19,832 so I increased it to JM $20,000. Due to the fact that I was away at college I gave my mother my plan and asked her to communicate my plan at an officers’ meeting. The weekend following the officers I came home and made the announcement during the church service that I would donate my Greenheart grant funds to make improvements to our community church.
At the end of the church service we made the decision to tile the outside steps and work will commence on December 13, 2012. They thought it was more pressing to tile the steps, because this makes cleaning easier and less expensive. As it relates to the badly damage window, the church plans to remake that entire section of the building, walls, floor, windows and door as well as to furnish the room; as soon as the money is accumulated. We were able to replace glass windows that had a blade missing.
On behalf of the members and officers’ of the Lucky Valley Baptist Church (located at Lucky Valley District St. Catherine Jamaica) I would like to say thank you for your kind gesture. The church has three outside steps, one and a half is completely tiled. Work is still on going, I can assure you it will be complete.
I am taking this opportunity to wish the entire CCI staff a prosperous and successful New Year. Thank you, Jevon Davis 2012 summer participant from Jamaica.
