Over Memorial Day weekend, I took a trip to Put-in-Bay, Ohio to visit with participants and employers of the Work and Travel Program. This was the first time that I had the opportunity to meet with any of CCI Greenheart participants. It was a great experience, and I was able to see the results of all the hard work that is done by the participants, employers, and my CCI Greenheart colleagues. I had been to Put-in-Bay before, because I am from Ohio, but this trip was different than the rest. This trip allowed me to see the behind the scenes work of all of the employees on the island. Until this trip, I saw Put-in-Bay as a vacation spot, but this trip opened up my eyes to all of the hard work that is had on the island.

I had the opportunity to meet with Ty Winchester, an employer at Pasquales Café. We were able to finalize a Greenheart Project for our Going Greenheart Tour on the island for June 20th with the help of a local organization Put-in-Bay Employees Care (PIBEC). With Ty’s help, we were able to plan an event that would help give back to the community. The Greenheart Project will include laying mulch and cleaning up the trails of the beautiful island. This Greenheart Project is taking place tomorrow, and two of our colleagues Beth and Adra will be in attendance to help support the community.

The trip was a great success, and I am happy that I had the opportunity to meet with different participants and employers on one of my favorite vacation islands!
