I’m staying in Harrisburg, PA this summer. Before I came here, I heard that Harrisburg was a small city, and was a little worried if this summer was going to be boring. However, the truth is, I’m falling in love with this quiet small town now. My summer here is nothing to do with being boring at all! I don’t want to waste any day during my stay here, so I work hard and play hard.
Compared with big cities, small towns have its own advantages. There is not much traffic here, no crowds of people and has a good environment. The natural beauty really moved me. The life here is almost like living in the forests. I can see green trees and grasses everywhere. And I can see many animals on the street. Squirrels, rabbits, ducks, deer are very common to see. I even saw a skunk one night when I was walking after dinner. It’s really good to be so close to nature.
I also like the weather here. It’s not very hot in the summer and it rains a lot. The sky after a shower becomes really beautiful. The color of the cloud just looks like “pink lemonade.” I often look up at sky and say: “Look! There is pink lemonade in the sky! The sky looks tasty.”
In order to make full use of my time, I try my best to spend my spare time meaningfully. I find there are a lot of things to do here. At night after work, I sometimes go to take a walk over the bridge across the Susquehanna River with my friends. The night breeze is cool and comfortable. The night view of downtown Harrisburg is quite beautiful. I also do some outdoor activities with my friends, including hiking, zip-lining, playing bumper boats, taking a cable car. It’s full of fun!
After a day’s hard play or hard work, it’s very warm to have a dinner with friends together. This summer being here makes my cooking skill improves a lot.
I deeply appreciate being here in Harrisburg this summer. It gives me a different and memorable experience. And it gives me a chance to know many international friends. I enjoy being here and I know when the day to say goodbye comes up, I will miss this small town.
