Being here is like coming back to my second family.

By: Micaela Graciarena, CCI Greenheart Work and Travel participant

My name is Micaela Graciarena and this is my second year on the Work and Travel program. At my university in Argentina, I’m in the English Teacher Training Program. Taking this course was the main reason why I decided to start this amazing experience abroad with CCI Greenheart. I have always loved the English language and American culture so this was an incredible opportunity for me.

My first year, I traveled alone to the United States to work as a server at Nest at the Viceroy in Snowmass. I was incredibly nervous when I had my first interview with Trent, the head of Human Resources, but felt very comfortable with him after a few exchanges. I lived with 17 other students from Mar de Plata, my hometown in Argentina, in a large and comfortable house in Aspen, not knowing any of them beforehand. As the season developed, I became friends with all my American coworkers and even developed a very close relationship with my manager, Andrea and my supervisor, Marci. I started snowboarding with my roommates who were kind and patient with me since I had never done it before. I loved it so much that I even bought a brand new board for when I got back to Snowmass. The minute I got here I knew I wanted to come back next year.

This is now my second season, and it feels like I’m coming back home. I spent Christmas with my Argentinian coworkers my manager, and Marci’s family at her house. For New Year’s Eve I went to my friend’s house with some American and Argentinian friends and coworkers; we had a blast. Being here is like coming back to my second family. I have not snowboarded yet because work has been super busy, but I already have my ski pass and so I will be back on the mountain soon!
Thank you for reading this and I hope it inspires you to go on the adventure of a Work and Travel experience!
