This summer season has seen a considerable surge in the amount of cross-cultural engagement by CCI Greenheart’s foreign participants. With a core mission of promoting cultural understanding, academic development, and world peace, CCI Greenheart is delighted to foster an environment where students worldwide can come together to cultivate their love of foreign culture and language. And what better way to delve into another culture than food!
Participants in the Work and Travel Program arrive from over 30 countries, each with unique and diverse customs and languages, all wanting to share a piece of their culture. Through potluck dinners, meals over language exchanges, and general interaction with fellow participants and local friends, participants are able to enlighten those around them with brand new tastes and aromas that stem from their home country’s traditional cuisine.
Gastronomy has commonly been known to be one of the best methods of understanding the background, history, and customs of another country. So whether you are munching on some Italian macaroons, rolling your own Japanese sushi, sampling gourmet French cheeses, or barbecuing Korean beef, you can proudly claim that you are expanding your global cultural awareness.
As the summer season winds down and a new season is fast approaching, we encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone. Don your culinary cap and stimulate your taste buds and with something new and exotic. Eat ethnic food! Try a new recipe! Host your own international potluck dinner! Immerse yourself!
