I’ve enjoyed every minute of this experience so far and I know for sure that I’m going to love the rest of my time here.

Hello everyone! I’m Adriana from Paraguay and this is my first Work and Travel experience! It’s my first time traveling alone and so far from home. I was really anxious about how everything was about to change: being in a new country, meeting new people, working a new job, and just living a new life. I was really nervous at first, but I was welcomed and felt like I became a part of a family.

I am working as a kitchen staff member at Maplelag Resort in Callaway, Minnesota. I really like my job and all the people with whom I work. They taught me how to cook a traditional meal called “meatloaf”, which is by far my favorite meal here. It’s like a burger but molded in the shape of a loaf of bread. It’s the best thing I’ve ever tried and I just love it! I also learned how to make blueberry cheesecake, and that, of course, is now my favorite dessert.

Last week there were only a few guests so I was given the opportunity to cook for them. I cooked a Paraguayan traditional meal called “Paraguayan soup” and everyone loved it.

One of my favorite activities here is skiing. I learned how to do it during my first week here and since then, every time I have a chance, I throw myself on a new trail. I’m still learning, but I’m definitely getting better.

Since we’re in a rural area, we don’t have any stores or malls nearby, but we have made a few trips to the nearest big city, Fargo, North Dakota every week. It´s a very nice city!

I’ve enjoyed every minute of this experience so far and I know for sure that I’m going to love the rest of my time here. It’s only been a month and what a month it has been!
