It’s a few weeks into our Spring 2014 program and our participants are thriving! They’ve settled into their roles at work and are exploring their community and making lots of friends along the way. One of the things we provide for our students is a free bus pass each month. This provides a safe and reliable way for them to get to work and to get out and explore. They tell me it’s one of their favorite perks!
The participants needed a little bit of guidance when it came time to pay rent. Many had never had to pay rent before, so they needed a little help coordinating everyone’s funds and getting the rent to the landlord on time. We were able to establish an easy plan for the following month that left the students feeling much more confident about the whole process.
One of the highlights of the month was that our participants had the opportunity to experience our community’s largest annual event: the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (“Coachella”). Many got to see celebrities enjoying the property, listen to some of their favorite popular music played live on property and some were even lucky enough to attend the event as VIP’s! It was difficult to distinguish work from play as everyone had a great time!
