The history of the United States: Balazs’ D.C. adventure
I was a bit afraid when I arrived in the U.S. because my English skills were not perfect. However, American people surprise me every day – they smile at me and help whenever they can.

My name is Balazs and coming to the U.S. through CCI Greenheart’s Work and Travel program is the best choice I have ever made! I traveled all the way from Hungary to Virginia to participate in the Summer Work Travel program as a pool attendant.
In Virginia, I have met lots of people and made American and European friends. My friends and I have a BBQ every week and travel to nearby towns during our days off. Recently, I traveled to Washington, D.C. where I visited all the must-see museums and buildings!
The buildings in D.C. can tell the history of the United States! Just a few of my favorites include the White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the National Zoo. There is so much to see, so I know I will have to visit again!
I was a bit afraid when I arrived in the U.S. because my English skills were not perfect. However, American people surprise me every day – they smile at me and help whenever they can. While working at the pool, I talk with the guests about U.S. American and Hungarian cultures and I was fortunate to celebrate the 4th of July with many of them!
I hope one day I can experience the United States again! There’s so much to see!
