Another successful International Greenheart Project has been accomplished! With the help of our partner in Eskisehir, Turkey – ICEPWorld, we organized a Greenheart Project with The TEMA Foundation (The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats).  On March 22nd, our group of aspiring SWT program participants, SWT alumni, and CCI Greenheart, ICEPWorld and TEMA representatives planted 350 trees in Dogankaya – a village nearby Eskisehir.

The surrounding areas of Eskisehir desperately need more trees to reduce soil erosion, increase the soil fertility and stabilize water supplies.  TEMA does an incredible job organizing and educating the local community about this need and our group is looking forward to volunteering with them in the future.

The leader of Dogankaya and his family prepared a wonderful thank you meal for the group. We all got to try a real homemade ayran (traditional Turkish drink made of yogurt and water) and pastries. We also enjoyed cakes prepared specially for this occasion by our partner – ICEPWorld.

Our particiopants look forward to new volunteering opportunities – both in Turkey and the United States in the future!
