Last month, CCI Greenheart had the pleasure of visiting the wonderful town of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. In a collaborative event facilitated by Department of State representatives, local community representatives, The Salvation Army, the Police and Fire Departments, and several J1-Visa sponsors, we were able to discuss important topics related to the Work and Travel program.

First prior to the event, I had the pleasure to walk around with one of our all – star participants, Ramon Anthony Molina Mendez, as he encouraged participants and community members to attend the event. As you can see from the photo gallery, the kids had a grand ole’ time!

During this J-1 Orientation, participants from all over the city were welcome to join and learn about important safety tips from a number of community members, while enjoying some local pizza!

Shuttle tokens, t-shirts, sunglasses, and bike helmets were among the things that were given out and raffled off that day. Participants were able to set up bank accounts, mingle with other J1’s, and discuss any questions or concerns with their sponsors in person. The local Social Security Administration officer also stopped in to give detailed instructions for those yet to apply for their Social Security numbers. Both the Fire Chief and Police Chief addressed the community to introduce themselves and to let the participants know that they are just there to help and promote safety in the community.

Thank you to the community of Old Orchard Beach, and we look forward to many great seasons to come!
