Marta Odainic is a Work and Travel participant from Moldova, working at Oak Street Beach Food+Drink in Chicago, IL. In her first blog post, she shares how she enjoys her time working in the Second City.

This summer I adventured myself into a new challenge. I applied for CCI Greenheart’s Work and Travel program for international students and I took the chance to come to Chicago.

Besides of the fact I enjoy every moment spent here, I’ve got the perfect job for the summer. I work as a waitress in the coolest beach restaurant, called “Oak Street Beach.” This is the perfect combination of the big city life with the calm atmosphere of Lake Michigan in Chicago.

Oak Street Beach seems like a big, international family to me. Here I have met people from different parts of the world. I have already discovered the cultures of Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Poland, Ghana, Jamaica, Croatia and many other countries – all through the international students that work/have fun with me.

Why I love this place? Because every day at work is a new, small adventure with amazing surroundings, nice people and the feeling that you are a part of this community!
